Soil Mix Supplement
Perlite – is a soft, lightweight & brilliant white material derived by heating naturally occurring volcanic glass.
It is odourless and has a neutral pH of 7.
It is chemically inert and is completely sterile and it is Eco-Friendly.
Perlite has good permeability allowing easy passage of liquids and gases thus increases the drainage of the soil or potting mix.
It has high air porosity and provides excellent aeration to roots allowing more oxygen available to the root zone.
It has excellent water holding and retention capacity.
It can be added as soil amendment to improve the soil structure. It also avoids soil compaction and very easy to use.
Uses
Good for Potting Mix: Add 1 part of perlite to 20 parts of potting mix.
Excellent stand-alone soilless medium for plant cuttings, seed germination and root anchor system for hydroponics setup.
Improving soil structure – Perlite produces nearly immediate lightening of soil that has gotten too heavy.
Highly recommended for home gardening, urban farming particularly for indoor & outdoor plant containers.
The newest use of perlite is in rooftop or terrace gardens. Using perlite over other soil mixtures reduces the weight dramatically, by more than half, allowing gardens to thrive in cities where garden space is virtually non-existent.
